HAVING A POSITIVE MIND
If you
begin to notice that successful people will not associate with you that you
have been overlooked for a promotion you think you deserve or that you always
get home depressed and little upset, you can almost always be sure you need an
attitude adjustment. Here is how to keep a positive mind.
Become an optimist
Optimistic
thoughts give the good moods that tend to serve as a foundation for developing
positive attitudes and effective human relationships. When you are optimist,
your co-workers, managers, and clients feel your energy.
Think for yourself
Determine
whether the attitudes that seem to get you in trouble are your own or the
results of socialization. If you have been socialized into holding negative
attitudes, you need to re-examine them.
Keep an open mind
We often
make decisions and then refuse to consider any other point of view that might
lead us to question our beliefs. Many times our attitudes persist even in the
presence to the contrary. If you have been raised in a family or community that
supports racist views, it may seem foreign to you when your colleagues at work
openly accepted your own. Pay attention and experience beyond what you have
socialized to believe.
Change the conditions
If you
want people to change their attitudes, identify the behavior that represent the
poor attitudes and alter the conditions that precedes the behavior.
